International Women's Day has been celebrated worldwide for over a century to recognise women's social, economic, cultural, and political achievements. This year, our Employment Law team at Miller Samuel Hill Brown organised a panel discussion event to celebrate the day and inspire inclusion in the workplace.
Business rates – or non-domestic rates as they are also known – are a tax levied on shops, bars, restaurants, offices and other commercial properties to pay towards Local Council services such as education, social care and waste management, to name a few. Liability for such ‘rates’ initially rests with the property owner, however it is usually passed on to the tenant under a commercial lease.
At the beginning of the pandemic (almost four years ago now), workplaces across the nation had to vacate office premises and work from home until told otherwise. This bizarre new way of working on mass completely shocked both employers and employees, forcing a quick and sudden adaptation of operation and equipment. With a large majority of employees in the UK now able to work from home for at least half the week, the hybrid working model seems to have been a welcomed adjustment from the employee perspective!
Mother's Day is an occasion that celebrates mothers worldwide; this year, it is marked on 10th March 2024. Celebrating this day however can pose particular challenges for families where parents have separated or divorced. A Parenting Plan can be an effective tool in such situations. A Parenting Plan is an agreement between separated parents which sets out where the child of the relationship will live and how the child will be supported and cared for by both parents after separation. It can have the added value of gifting the child the knowledge that parents came together and invested time in sharing the preparation of such an important agreement for them.
