Team Spotlight: Welcoming Laura Shields to Our Commercial Property Team

We are excited to shine our team spotlight on Laura Shields, who has recently joined Miller Samuel Hill Brown as an Associate in our Commercial Property team. With six years of experience in the property sector, Laura brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will enhance our service offerings. We sat down with Laura to discuss her journey, her vision for her role, and how she plans to make an impact in the team.

Q: Welcome, Laura! To start, can you tell us a bit about your background in property?

Laura: Thank you! My journey in property began six years ago, and it's been an enriching experience. I've had the opportunity to work with a variety of clients, from national commercial landlords to social housing providers, individual investors, and small property holders. This exposure helped me develop a deep understanding of different aspects of the commercial property sector.

Q: What's a key part of your role that you're particularly passionate about?

Laura: I think a key part of my role is to empower my clients with the knowledge and confidence they need to make decisions that are best for them and their businesses, particularly those who are new to commercial property or have minimal experience in the sector. Our ultimate goal is always to successfully complete the deal, but it's essential that everyone feels comfortable with what they're signing up for; a contract involves much more than the Heads of Terms. Sometimes, the best decision for a client is to walk away from a deal, and we strive to provide the guidance and legal support necessary for them to make that choice. By doing so, we can help them avoid potential losses and reduce stress in the long run, setting them up for future success.

Q: How do you believe you can strengthen our Commercial Property team?

Laura: My approach is decidedly pragmatic. I really try to understand the client's business, what they aim to achieve with a particular deal and how they envisage their business and commercial property requirements developing over the medium to long term. Understanding the bigger picture of how a deal fits into the client's overall goals can help us to provide the most appropriate advice at the time and future-proof the transaction.

Q: What inspired you to join Miller Samuel Hill Brown?

Laura: MSHB has an excellent reputation across the legal sector in Scotland. The clients we have are excellent, and the range and quality of work rivals some of the bigger firms in the market. The wider team have been so welcoming, and they have made it easy to settle in and get stuck into the work.

As we welcome Laura to the MSHB family, her enthusiasm and expertise promise to be a valuable addition to our Commercial Property team. We're excited for the journey ahead and look forward to seeing the positive impact she'll have on our clients and the firm as a whole. Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Laura Shields!
