Peter Lawson awarded a CBE in King's Birthday Honours 2023

Miller Samuel Hill Brown is delighted to announce that Licensing consultant, Peter Lawson, has been awarded a CBE in the first Birthday Honours list made by King Charles III.

The King's Birthday Honours mark the extraordinary contributions and service of people across the UK. The Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) is the highest-ranking Order of the British Empire award given to people to recognise a positive impact they have made in their work. Peter Lawson received his accolade in recognition of his dedication to the arts.

“A leading licensing lawyer”, quoted in Chambers directory of legal experts, Peter Lawson has been involved in several arts organisations and trusts, both as legal adviser and a board member over the past thirty years. Peter is a past Chairman of the Tron Theatre Company, former Chairman of GUCOM (Glasgow Unesco City of Music) and a former BAFTA Scotland Committee Member. At present, Peter is a director and the Chairman of Scottish Opera, and a director of the Theatre Royal, Glasgow. Peter’s interests include film and television, and he is a director of Raindog TV Limited. Peter is a supporter of, and adviser to, several arts focused charities.

Reflecting on his award, Peter Lawson said:

“I am honoured and delighted to accept the CBE in the 2023 Birthday Honours List. I have been very fortunate to have been able to contribute to the cultural scene over the past 40 years, particularly with my Chairmanships of the Tron Theatre and currently of Scottish Opera. I consider the honour to be a recognition of the importance of culture in bettering everyone’s day-to-day life, and also honouring the wonderfully dedicated and talented people with whom I have worked in the arts in Scotland.”

Commenting on Peter’s award, Edward Laverty, Partner & Chief Executive at Miller Samuel Hill Brown, said:

“Congratulations to our former partner and consultant for being awarded for their remarkable contributions to the performing Arts in Scotland. As a firm, Miller Samuel Hill Brown are as dedicated and passionate about its support of the performing Arts in Scotland, as it is to understand its clients’ needs and desires, and in providing a truly outstanding client service than is more than just great law.
