Michael is a founding Partner of the pre-merged firm of Miller Samuel, establishing the firm in 1973. He retired from private practice at the end of 2021. He specialised in all aspects of
Private Client work and is a recognised expert in his field.
While no longer practising as a solicitor, Michael remains closely connected to the firm. He is a well-known and highly respected member of both the legal and business communities.
Michael has held various prominent positions, including former Director of the International Lawyers Network, Children's Classic Concerts, Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland, and The Merchants House of Glasgow. Currently, he serves as a Trustee of the Queens Park Charitable Trust and as a Governor of the Bailies Institution. Additionally, he is a former Chairman of the Western Club in Glasgow.
For twenty-two years, Michael was the Chairman of Glasgow Solicitors Property Centre Ltd (GSPC). He is also a past Dean of the Royal Faculty of Procurators in Glasgow and a former member of its Council. Presently, he serves as the convenor of the Royal Faculty Charitable Funds Committee. Furthermore, he has been the past convenor of the Law Society of Scotland's Business of Conveyancing Committee and has served as Vice Convenor and member of the Law Society of Scotland's Property Law Committee. In 2023, Michael received the award of being appointed an
Honorary Member of the Law Society of Scotland.
