Maggie’s Lanarkshire Three Peaks ChallengeOn Saturday 19th August 2023, 10 of us from MSHB will be taking part in the Lanarkshire 3 Peaks Challenge organised by one of our chosen charities this year, Maggie’s.

We and approximately 40 other daring hikers will aim to concur Tinto Hill (711 metres), Culter Fell (748 metres) and Green Lowther (732 metres)...all in the one day. The combined elevation of 2,191 metres is over one and a half times the height of Ben Nevis! Every penny raised will go straight to Maggie’s and support the excellent work they do. Any donation you can make is greatly appreciated – Miller Samuel Hill Brown LLP is fundraising for Maggie's Centres

With the challenge expected to run from 7:45 a.m. to 6 p.m., the team have decided that some training is in order. As such, we are planning to scale one of the ‘Arrochar Alps’ on Sunday 6th August (pictures to follow on LinkedIn). Our Chairman, Marie Macdonald, is also our resident hiking enthusiast and has briefed us on all the clothing and equipment we will need for the big day – I think a few trips to the outdoor shops are required!

On a personal note (Dru Nicholson writing), the challenge will in effect mark the end of my recovery from a knee surgery in November following a serious injury playing rugby in Orkney. It has been a long rehabilitation journey after undergoing Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Reconstruction and a Meniscus Root Repair but it feels amazing to be in a position where I can participate in worthwhile events like these again with my colleagues. You cannot beat a Scottish hill walk and fingers crossed the weather stays dry.
