Maggie's Lanarkshire Three Peaks Challenge: The Follow Up

Maggies Lanarkshire Three Peaks Challenge The Follow Up

Our charity committee accomplished an impressive feat last month by taking on the Lanarkshire Three Peaks challenge to raise money and awareness for Maggie's charity. The challenge involved scaling the three highest summits in Lanarkshire in a single day: Tinto Hill (711m), Green Lowther (732m), and the highest point in South Lanarkshire, Culter Fell (748m). The combined elevation of these three peaks is 2,191 metres, which is more than one and a half times the height of Ben Nevis! Though some team members were experienced hill walkers, none of them had attempted these three hills consecutively before, making it a true challenge.

Through the strong winds, heavy fog, and pouring rain brought by Storm Betty, the team of Dru Nicholson, Amy Emmerson, Aileen Thomson, Marie Macdonald, Anna Fox, Callum Maclean, Gillian Irving, and Rebecca Quinn persevered. Their unwavering determination allowed them to complete the climb and raise an impressive £1,825 for Maggie's Cancer Centre. Despite facing the steepest incline at Culter Fell and enduring the most challenging weather, they continued on. And in the end, their efforts were rewarded with the most breathtaking views of all.

Reflecting on the challenge, Trainee Solicitor Amy Emmerson commented, "Climbing all three hills is a task in itself, but the team were also facing Storm Betty at the same time. The heavy rain and winds meant that we started the challenge a bit hesitant, knowing the visibility would be poor and we would be soaked through (multiple times!). Whilst the weather added to the challenge, we made the most of the day and were very proud to have raised money for a great cause that will make a real difference to those impacted by cancer."

Overall, the team's efforts raised vital funds for Maggie's Cancer Centre, and they would recommend the Three Peaks experience to anyone.
