A traineeship is an opportunity to turn your legal knowledge into practical experience, develop confidence and discover the kind of solicitor you want to become.

At Miller Samuel Hill Brown, trainee solicitors gain experience in a multi-service Glasgow law firm while learning from approachable, experienced colleagues. You will have opportunities to develop your legal knowledge, work with clients and understand how different departments collaborate to provide practical, joined-up advice.

We want our trainees to feel supported while being trusted with increasing responsibility as their skills and confidence grow.

What can you expect from a traineeship at MSHB?

Experience across different areas of law

Working within different departments allows you to experience contrasting areas of legal practice and identify where your strengths and interests lie.

Each seat brings different clients, responsibilities and ways of working. It also helps you develop transferable skills that will remain valuable throughout your legal career.

Practical client experience

Understanding the law is only one part of becoming an effective solicitor. You must also be able to listen, identify what matters to a client and explain complex information clearly.

During your traineeship, you can develop the confidence to communicate with clients, contribute to live matters and see how thoughtful legal advice can make a meaningful difference.

Support from experienced colleagues

Starting your legal career involves learning new processes, adapting to different departments and asking plenty of questions.

Our trainees work alongside colleagues who are willing to share their knowledge, explain unfamiliar areas and provide constructive feedback. Regular support and increasing levels of responsibility help trainees develop confidence in their abilities.
