Spotlight on our team

In our May newsletter, we brought you news of our Licensing team being the only firm in Scotland to have two accredited specialists in liquor licensing law. However, our licensing department are not the only ones to have achieved the distinction of being recognised as an accredited specialist: Marie Macdonald, our Chairman and Head of Employment is also recognised as an accredited specialist in Employment Law.

The Specialist Accreditation scheme recognises solicitors who have developed expert knowledge in their field through their experience with complex cases, marking them out as "capable beyond the ordinary". Marie has been recognised as an employment law specialist since 2006, when she was first accredited.

Marie established our distinct employment law team in 2004 and it has gone from strength to strength since that time. Today it is recognised as experts in employment law. Joining Marie in the team are Stephen Connolly (Partner), Laura MacSporran (Assistant Solicitor) and Linda Reilly (Specialist Paralegal in Employment Law).

Amongst other distinctions the team and its employment lawyers have attained over the years, it was recognised as the Employment Law Firm of the Year at the Law Awards of Scotland in 2009 and it was also a shortlisted finalist for the same award in 2010 and 2014.

The team provide advice on all employment law matters from unfair dismissal claims; settlement agreements; discrimination in the workplace; to contractual disputes and more. A full list of the areas in which the team can assist can be found on our website. It provides employment law advice on non-contentious matters as well as providing Employment Tribunal representation for clients on a regular basis.

The team can provide assistance to all and its client bases including individuals, governmental organisations, companies (of all shapes and sizes) and charities and it acts for clients from all over Scotland (and beyond!).

For businesses, the team offers an employment law/ HR retainer service: HR Resource. This allows businesses access to specialist employment law advice as and when it is required for a fixed annual cost.
